                            HENRY CHARLES PAYNE 1850-1916

Henry Charles Payne was born In Newburyport, Mass. in 1850. He settled in Chicago, IL where he maintained a studio working in both oil and pastel paintings, specializing in impressionist landscapes. He was associated with and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists. He also exhibited at the Palette & Chisel Club in the late 1800's. He was listed in 'Who Was Who in American Art'. His pastels are somewhat uncommon to find. Pieces sold at major auctions included one owned by Oprah Winfrey.
Here is an opportunity to acquire one of his impressionist pastel pieces for your collection. Over 100 years old.

Pastel on Board.  Size 14 in x 20 in  Price: $2,600.00

This pastel painting was acquired at a Wisconsin family estate sale. I was told that it hung in their grandparents home for as long as they could remember. Like many old pastels they were framed with glass that made contact with the pastel surface itself. Over time with humidity fluctuations, pastel particles tended to migrate on to the glass surface. When humidity levels dropped, bits of pastel on the glass loosened and fell to the bottom of the frame. Other pastels that I have in my collection have all had the same problem.
Today, many artists who work in pastel spray a fixative on the pastel surface to help in eliminating the problem. Purists do not use a fixative. Instead they use thin strips of acid free mat board or foam core in the rabbet of the frame in order to create an air space between glass and pastel which helps prevent the surface from migrating,
To correct the problem I had to remove the painting and glass in order to remove the pastel dust that had accumulated, A spacer was inserted under the frame rabbet in order to allow the pastel image to "breathe".

Price $2,600.00 This pastel painting will be shipped in a well cushioned wood crate constructed in my studio. (I have been making wooden crates to ship artwork for 40 years FedEx without any damage.) Please contact me if you have any questions.

WILLIAM MICHAEL YENKEVICH (Listed American Artist). Oil on Board. PRICE $2,800.00

TROMPE L' OEIL Original oil painting on board Size: 14" x 24"
Mr. Yenkevich is a well respected artist who has been painting since the 1980's. I contacted him via email shortly after acquiring this oil painting several years ago. Mr. Yenkevich told me that it was given to a family member in Ohio and as the years passed by the painting simply "disappeared". It eventually found its way to LaCrosse, Wisconsin and finally ended up in my hands. This is a classic trompe l'oeil piece reminiscent of those from the late 19th century to the early 20th century portraying hunting items.
To see current work by Mr. Yenkevich I would highly recommend his website at William Michael Yenkevich Fine Art.

OVERALL PAINTING WITH "STRESSED" FRAME. I can ship this painting in the frame, however when I mention "stressed" frame I really mean that with many marks, scratches, etc. The good news is the condition of the painting itself with only a few tiny marks. The final varnish layer has darkened as varnish will do. I would recommend having the varnish surface cleaned by a professional.  If you would like me to send more images or if you have questions, please feel free to contact me at riddetm@gmail.com or call 608-872-2429.
